History

In the 14th century, during their stay in Avignon, the Popes built a pontifical castle in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Attracted by this exceptional terroir, they developed the vineyard. Created in 1979 by Odile and Alain Jaume, on top quality old parcels in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, planted with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, Domaine Grand Veneur rapidly acquired an international reputation: in 2007, Robert Parker considers the estate as a “future star” in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; in 2012 he gives a 100/100 grade at the Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes 2010; in 2018 there is a new 100 / 100 score signed by Jeb Dunnuck for the 2016 vintage.

Today

the ambition of the family, “craftsmen dedicated to the great terroirs of the Rhone Valley”, is that of “elaborating intense, characterful and typical wines, with an authentic taste”. Since June 2014, each and every weekend, the estate rents a guest house, even in the off-season. Learn more

In 2003, the couple bet on the potential of another nearby Cru – AOC Lirac “Clos de Sixte” situated on the Rhone’s right bank, under the impetus of their sons, Sébastien (winemaker) and Christophe (sales and marketing). They then decided to pursue this terroir diversification, with the acquisition of Château Mazane in the Vacqueyras appellation area and La Grangette Saint Joseph (55 ha) in 2015, located in the Côtes du Rhône area, across from Vacqueyras. The Jaume family is extremely familiar with the latter, as they sourced grapes from this organic vineyard for over 15 years. Hélène Jaume, sister of Sébastien and Christophe, joined the family business after a period with a distributor in the United States.

A spirit of innovation

The vineyards are cultivated according to organic growing norms (controlled by Ecocert). Gentle tilling, yields limited to around 34 hl/ha, grapes sorted one by one, wines barely filtered. “Every wine elaborated seeks to extol the finesse and true expression of the terroir of origin”. Côtes du Rhône "Les Champauvins", a locality situated a few meters from the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation area, is another of the estate’s emblematic wines. “Our Anglo-Saxon customers compare it to a "baby Châteauneuf”!
